A particularly nice, simply carved (and unadorned) Tibetan trumpet conch that we can definitely date to the 19th century (possibly 18th century).
The naga / conch shell is one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols and represents the fame of the Buddha's teaching which spreads in all directions like the sound of the conch trumpet.
The shell has been converted into a trumpet by removing the end point to provide a blow hole. It is otherwise unadorned.
Note the patina on this particular piece (we have done little to adjust it) which we have preferred to leave intact as it is a good indication of how it has been used over its lifetime.
Dimensions: 10 x 6 x 5 cm
Condition: in fantastic condition with a unique patina that has been built over several hundreds of years. Do not clean as this would affect the piece's historical value.
Provenance: from the private collection of a prominent London based artist. Further details can be provided on purchase or by contact (we prefer to keep names and specificities private until the sale is finalised).
At Antiquus, we have been trading professionally in antiques for several generations. We stand by all our descriptions and antiques appraisals and valuations. Our specialists have studied extensively with post-graduate degrees in the arts.
