A rather unusual item, an etching of Rembrandt's 'Landscape with a Cottage and a Large Tree,' but by a Dutch artist from the mid-20th century (ca. 1960s).

I suspect that the artist, Rie de Boer, may have been given access to some of Rembrandt's original plates by the Rembrandthuis in Amsterdam to produce this. It's remarkably in keeping with the original Rembrandt etchings.

We have another example by Rie de Boer of 'The Windmill' which still bears a 'Rembrandt, f. 1641,' which supports the theory that she may have been provided access to carefully study Rembrandt's original plates for reproductions to be made.

Signed to the bottom left, in pencil, 'Handprinted by Rie de Boer.' Press marks from the print-making process can be seen around margins of the etching.

Frame size: 46 x 27 cm
