A lovely, toned and early Marcus Aurelius denarius with an early portrait and Providentia on the reverse side.
From the estate of a private collector. Many of the coins from this collection are sealed and as such we have not been able to weigh them. Do note, however, that they are guaranteed original.
Struck slightly off-centre on the reverse but the obverse is nice and clear with good detailing still intact. While struck off-centre, the reverse still holds good detail and is clearly identifiable as the Providentia version. We would grade this coin as a strong VF. If the reverse was centred we would likely grade this as aEF.
Obv: M ANTONINVS AVG, bare head right,
Rev: PROV DEOR TR P XVI COS III, Providentia standing left, holding globe and cornucopiae,
161 – 162 BC.
