A rather unusual piece due to its size at 3.8 cm high and weighing 24.3 grams!
An antique, Victorian, 9 carat yellow gold citrine fob spinner (Birmingham, 1896). Fob spinners were designed as counter weights to the pocket watch that were affixed to the other end of the pocket watch chain. I assume the pocket watch that this used to be attached to was quite heavy and the pocket watch chain will have been hefty. More recently, fob spinners are making a comeback as pendants due to their shape, design and intricacy.
The setting is simple, all 9 carat yellow gold with English assay office marks and dates. The citrine is a big boy. It is designed with flat panels on three sides and faceted between the panels which creates a scintillating effect.
